The Lagos State Deputy, Doctor Obafemi Hamzat, has emerged the Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the party’s Primaries elections across all the wards in the state.
Hamzat polled 657,917 votes while Lanre Kamal had one vote out of the total votes of 657,947 in the party’s Governorship Primaries elections.
Earlier, Chairman, All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, Cornelius Ojelabi thanked members of the Party Primaries elections committee for the success story of the seamless process saying the party’s Presidential Primaries Electionswould take place on Saturday 23rd of May 2026 for the emergence of the Candidate representing the party in the general elections next year.
The Chairman Lagos State Assembly and Governorship Party Primaries, a retired General Jonathan Temlong, who presented the results to representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Committee and Aspirant’s agents thanked the members of the party for their support.
In his acceptance speech titled “My Lagos Dream,” the APC flag bearer said his administration would concentrate on four critical areas service delivery and infrastructure, job creation, knowledge, and skills development, as well as health and security.
According to him, Lagos must continue to expand its infrastructure network while creating opportunities for young people and improving the welfare of residents across the state.
“2027 is a crucial year for our state and our nation and the stakes are high,” Hamzat said, adding that his goal is to keep Lagos working for all residents regardless of social status, religion or ethnicity.
The Deputy Governor pledged to sustain ongoing investments in rail, road and water transportation, while also supporting entrepreneurs and building a workforce capable of competing globally.
Hamzat also promised inclusive governance, saying artisans, traders, transport workers, fishermen, market women, tech professionals and investors would all benefit from his administration.
The APC candidate highlighted his years of public service under successive administrations in Lagos, including his tenure as Commissioner for Science and Technology and later Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure.
Doctor Hamzat credited past administrations led by President Bola Tinubu, Babatunde Fashola, Akinwunmi Ambode, and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for laying the foundation for Lagos’ growth into Africa’s leading commercial hub.
He pointed to major projects he helped supervise, including the Bus Rapid Transit system, Lagos Blue and Red Rail Lines, Adiyan Water Works and the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge.
Hamzat also thanked Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu, the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) led by Tajudeen Olusi, and APC members across the state for their support and confidence in his candidacy.
“With your support and the blessing of Almighty God, I know that we can rise to the challenge and keep Lagos working,” Hamzat said. Hamzat, commended President Bola Tinubu for improving on the national democratic credentials and Governor Sanwo-Olu for what he had done for the state and thIne party, seeking Lagosians blessings as he run s for the gubernatorial position.
Meanwhile, Governor Sanwo-Olu on his X handle also congratulated Hamzat on emerging as the APC Lagos Governorship candidate for the 2027 elections.
“We have worked side by side for years and I know firsthand his deep love for Lagosians, his brilliance, and his unwavering dedication to progress” the Governor said.
According to the Governor, “the work ahead is massive, but with Femi, I am absolutely confident that our state will reach even greater heights.” He also said “Let us stay united and keep moving Lagos forward”.
Present at the event were Governor Sanwo-Olu, party leaders including members of the party’s Governance Advisory Council in Lagos,Lagos State Assembly and Governorship Party Primaries Committee among other dignitaries.
