Participants at the sixth edition of Big 5 Construct Nigeria have said Nigeria’s growing population, urbanisation and infrastructure needs are driving increased demand for construction and related services.
This was the submission of Participants, stakeholders and exhibitors at the three day Big 5 Construct Nigeria and exhibition, holding from September 22nd to 24th, 2026, at Landmark Centre, Lagos.
Senior Vice President of dmg events, Josine Heijmans, at the three day Big 5 Construct Nigeria event and exhibition, holding at Landmark in Lagos, said the programme provides a platform for local and international stakeholders to explore new products, technologies and investment opportunities across the construction value chain.
“Of course, Nigeria, you know, driven by population growth, urbanization, also economic diversification. There’s really strong development being in housing, infrastructure development, transport, even social infrastructure as well, like development of schools and hospitals as well”, Heijmans said.
“And of course, to deliver this project, it’s really important to bring stakeholders involved in delivering those projects together. And that’s what a platform like Big Five Construct Nigeria does” She said.
Heijmans said more than 170 exhibitors from over 20 countries, including six country pavilions, are participating in the event, showcasing solutions in areas such as building materials, water systems, interiors, windows, doors, facades and construction technology.

Also speaking, Deputy President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Valerie Agberagba, stressed that delivering quality infrastructure is a shared responsibility among government, engineers, contractors and other stakeholders.
Agberagba in an interview at the event which featured Big 5 talks, panel discussions and exhibitions, called for responsible planning, adequate financing, proper supervision and maintenance of completed projects, while warning engineers against allowing their professional certificates to be used on projects they did not participate in.
According to Agberagba, “As an engineer, if I need to get an approval for a project, I know I have to follow everything I have to do to make sure that it certificates and approval is given.
“So people should rise up to their responsibility,
people need to take their job seriously and they should be punished when they are not doing it and I think that’s results that shared responsibility”, She said.
She said, “And for the engineers, we know that the project conception, design, and getting the approval lies with us.”
Agberagba said the NSE disciplinary committee has sanctioned members involved in such practices, including suspension and withdrawal of certificates of practice.

The speakers and participants the the sixth edition of Big five Construct Nigeria also identified urbanisation, infrastructure deficit, rising energy demand and industrial expansion as major forces shaping Nigeria’s construction pipeline.
They emphasised proper risk management, cash-flow planning and attention to people, projects, location and processes in construction delivery.
Also Speaking, one of the exhibitors, Managing Director of Bosch Nigeria, Dr. Samson Ajayi, said this year, it makes sense for the company to also strongly participate as a sponsor because it was looking forward to scaling up the conversation that it had started in the past.
He also said the organisation is expanding into new networks, new industries and making key stakeholders also aware that Bosch as a German brand, original German brand, and strong pedigree in terms of quality of delivery and also local presence is at the Big 5 Construct Nigeria’s exhibition.
“So we are one of the only OEMs actually in Nigeria
that have and own presence.So we’ve been here for more than 10 years and our operations in Africa spans, It spans through since 1906 with a plant in South Africa” He said.
“But focusing now on Nigeria, we are quite bullish about our exhibition in 2020 because of the quality of the services that we are also offering and innovative products that we are showcasing. One of the innovative aspects of our tools beyond just the electrician kit” Dr. Ajayi said.

The exhibition showcases solutions covering building interiors and finishes, concrete and cement, construction tools and PPE, digital construction technologies, mechanical, electrical and plumbing services, heavy construction equipment, steel and aluminium systems, modular construction, landscaping, windows, doors and façades.
Major exhibitors include Saint-Gobain, Sika, Asian Paints, Bosch, Uniflo–Al Shihhi Industry, SPG Nigeria and Abumet, among others.
The event featured Big 5 Talks, with more than 25 CPD-certified sessions addressing project delivery, digital transformation, cost management, sustainable building materials, architecture, design and project management.
It also featured Ribbon Cutting Ceremony graced by the presence of Acting Executive Director, Export Council for Building Materials, Refractory & Metallurgy Industries; Ahmed Abdelfatah, Trade Analyst (CRM, Heavy Machinery, Agribusiness, Innovation and Technology & Construction Sector), ITA Lagos; Alessandro Okigbo.
