The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has commenced action to remove illegal structures and address encroachment within the Olusosun Dumpsite.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Doctor Muyiwa Gbadegesin, said the planned removal of shanties at the dumpsite was part of efforts to safeguard the facility for effective waste management operations.

He explained that the exercise commenced September 15th, 2026, with the issuance of Removal Notices to owners and occupants of illegal structures identified within the premises.

According to him, the notices directed the affected owners and occupants to remove the structures and vacate the area within a stipulated period, in accordance with the law.

He said protecting the integrity and accessibility of the facility was essential to safe and efficient waste management in Lagos State, maintaining that all forms of encroachment and illegal activities could undermine operations at the dumpsite.

Gbadegesin reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to promoting an orderly, organised and liveable environment through sustainable waste management.
