Lagos State University (LASU) has urged Graduates of Engineering and Agricultural Sciences at its Epe Campus to use their knowledge to address Nigeria’s development challenges.
The Vice-Chancellor of LASU, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, said this at the University’s 29th and 30th combined Convocation Ceremonies for the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions, held at the Epe Campus.
The University also conferred the rank of Distinguished Professor on Professor Rafiu Olaoluwa Okuneye and Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello.

The event also witnessed the commissioning of the 350-capacity University ICT Centre and the ground-breaking ceremony for the New Faculty of Engineering Complex at Epe Campus.
Speaking during the Convocation ceremony for the of diplomas, first degrees, postgraduate diplomas and master’s degrees in Engineering and Agricultural Sciences at Epe Campus, she said Ayilara Lawal Olawale of the Department of Project Management emerged best graduating student for 2024/2025 with a CGPA of 4.96 and First Class Honours.
While Oluolamide Adebanjo of the Department of Aerospace Engineering who also emerged best graduating student for 2025/2026 with a CGPA of 4.97, also with First Class Honours was presented with ten million Naira Cash prize at the event.
She stressed that the country needs problem-solvers, innovators and professionals whose competence was matched by integrity.
Professor Olatunji-Bello at the event which was part of activities marking the combined Convocation ceremonies’ of the University where a total of 20,604 students graduated, advised the graduates to remain adaptable and committed to lifelong learning, particularly in view of rapid developments in technology, artificial intelligence, climate change and other fields.

Olatunji-Bello said 8,568 students met the requirements for the award of diplomas and first degrees for the 2024/2025 academic session, while another 8,697 students qualified for graduation in the 2025/2026 session.
She stated that 3,383 students were approved for graduation from the University’s higher degree programmes across the two academic sessions.
The Vice-Chancellor said the ceremony marked the first time a convocation was being held at the Epe Campus since its establishment nearly three decades ago, describing it as a major milestone in the development of the campus.
“This occasion holds a deeply personal significance for me, as it marks my maiden Convocation Ceremony as the 6th Chancellor of this great institution. I consider this appointment a profound honour and privilege, and I am deeply grateful to the Executive Governor of Lagos State and Visitor to the University, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for the confidence he has reposed in me” she said.
She said the Epe Campus had witnessed significant infrastructural development in recent years, including the construction of a new Faculty of Engineering building, upgrading of hostels, lecture rooms and laboratories, construction of a central store and modern toilet facilities, as well as perimeter fencing.
According to Professor Olatunji-Bello, the campus is being positioned as a strategic hub for Engineering, Agriculture, innovation and technology.

The Pro-Chancellor of the University, Alara of Ilara Kingdom, Epe, Oba Olufolarin Ogunsanwo urged Graduates to remember that the Convocation is not the end of their education but the beginning of a greater responsibility.
“Today marks the culmination of years of study, sacrifice, discipline and determination. You have every reason to be proud of this achievement. But remember that Convocation is not the end of your education; it is the beginning of a greater responsibility,” he said
