The NOVA 2026 Graduating Class of Babcock University has launched a ₦45 million legacy project with the groundbreaking of a modern 324-seater pavilion at the university’s Iperu campus.
The project, which aims to upgrade sporting and recreational facilities for students at Ilisan-Remo Ogun State, was flagged off by the university’s President/Vice Chancellor, Professor Afolarin Ojewole.
Speaking at the ceremony, Professor Ojewole who promised that the management would continue to build and not destroy, urged the contractors and class members to prioritize quality and durability over speed.
“We are not going to rush to commission these projects, but be rest assured that the job will be well done and delivered,” he said. “This is a testament of good professionalism. While others destroy their school, Babcock students build theirs. In five or 10 years, class members can return and see that their giving made a big difference.”
The pavilion is an expansion of an earlier structure built in 2019 that was damaged by a storm in 2023. According to Pastor Muyiwa Oyinloye, a co-sponsor of the class, the NOVA 2026 set is determined to rebuild it to a better standard.
Project Engineer, Seun Omotosho, said while the initial contract sum is ₦45 million, the final cost may rise due to additional features being incorporated.
In addition to the pavilion, the graduating class will also renovate five gazebos located between the Samuel Akande Activity Hall and the cafeteria at the main campus.
The university said the upgraded relaxation spots will improve students’ physical and social well-being and enhance campus life.
University Officials, Class Leaders Other principal officers who were present at the groundbreaking included Professor Tolani Williams, Vice President, Student Development, and class sponsor Doctor Bukola Alaowith, as well as co-sponsors Pastor Oyinloye and Doctor Emmanuel Ikeagbu.
The class executives were represented by Samuel Owoeye, Vice President, Babcock College of Education and E-Learning, BCCE, and Favour Ohuche, Vice President, Babcock University College of Divinity and Leadership, BUCODEL.
Professor Ojewole commended the NOVA 2026 class for choosing projects that would benefit future generations of Babcock students in sports, outdoor events, and recreation.
The groundbreaking marks one of the largest class projects in recent years at the university.
