Stakeholders in Nigeria’s technology and education sectors have stressed the importance of digital skills for the country’s future growth and economic development.
They noted that as the world becomes more technology-driven, Nigerian youths must embrace innovation and digital learning to remain relevant in the global economy.
According to experts, technology is rapidly transforming industries across the world, creating opportunities in areas such as software development, cybersecurity, digital marketing, data analysis, and artificial intelligence.
A tech analyst, Tunde Adeola, said Nigerian youths possess the creativity and resilience needed to succeed in the digital space if given the right support and training.
Reports from global organizations also show that millions of new technology-related jobs are expected to emerge in the coming years, making digital competence increasingly important.
Stakeholders highlighted successful Nigerian tech companies such as Flutterwave, Paystack, and Andela as proof that young Nigerians can compete globally and attract international investment.
They, however, identified poor digital literacy, inadequate internet access, and limited training opportunities as major challenges affecting many youths, especially in rural communities.
Education experts called for stronger integration of coding, robotics, and practical digital skills into school curriculums to better prepare students for the future.
Private organizations and tech hubs are also contributing through various training programmes aimed at equipping youths with relevant technological skills.
Beyond employment opportunities, experts noted that technology can help solve challenges in agriculture, healthcare, education, and governance through innovative digital solutions.
Stakeholders further urged the government to improve digital infrastructure, provide reliable electricity, and create policies that encourage innovation and entrepreneurship.
They maintained that with proper investment and support, Nigerian youths can drive the country’s transformation from a consumer of technology to a global technology leader.
