Sanwo-Olu, Olusi: Deputy Governor Best to Build on State’s Gains.
The Governance Advisory Council, GAC, the apex decision-making body of the Lagos All Progressives Congress has adopted Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat as its consensus governorship aspirant for the 2027 election.
The decision was reached Tuesday at a closed-door meeting at Lagos House, Marina, in a move that signals early consolidation of support within the ruling party.
GAC’s Chairman, Tajudeen Olusi, said the council was confident in Hamzat’s capacity to lead. “He is well-positioned to build on the achievements of previous administrations and further advance the development of Lagos, Olusi told reporters after the meeting”, Olusi said.
Olusi said the council would collectively purchase Hamzat’s nomination and expression of interest forms, valued at fifty million Naira, as an indication of its firm backing.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also confirmed that the Lagos APC had purchased the presidential nomination form for President Bola Tinubu, citing confidence in his administration’s Renewed Hope reforms.
The twin endorsements position Hamzat as the frontrunner in the Lagos APC ahead of 2027, as political activities begin to gather pace.
