The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu , alongside his cabinet members have expressed support for the incumbent Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat to vie for gubernatorial position under the banner of the All Progressives Congress APC,in 2027.
Governor Sanwo-Olu stated this at Lagos House, Marina, when the Deputy Governor led a delegation of leaders of the Party, including members of the Governance’s Advisory Council, GAC, former Minister, Lawmakers, among others, to officially intimate him of his intention to contest for the number one position of the State.
“We just concluded a visit where the Deputy Governor came with a very strong delegation of leaders to formally inform me of his intention to contest for the governorship seat,” he said.
The Governor described his Deputy as someone with the highest sense of integrity, loyalty, support, and prepared for the job.
“It was a very warm family meeting and, at the end of the consultations, it was unanimous that the Deputy Governor is fit, ready and well-prepared for the job,” he said.
Governor Sanwo-Olu thanked President Bola Tinubu for his long term vision, for him and his Deputy in ensuring the growth of the State.
“He is a man who understands governance deeply and has been part of the system, knowing how every aspect of government functions,” he said.
The Governor praised his deputy’s character, citing humility, integrity, loyalty and commitment demonstrated over the years.
“He has worked with me with humility and at the highest level of integrity, loyalty, commitment and support,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu expressed appreciation for the formal notification, describing it as an honour and privilege.
“I feel personally honoured and privileged that you have given me this respect to formally inform me,” he said.
He also acknowledged the role of President Bola Tinubu in fostering their political journey, noting that their partnership had long been envisioned.
“I thank our father and leader, the President, who saw the vision years ago and believed in both of us,” he said.
According to him, Hamzat had functioned as a partner in governance from the beginning of the administration.
“This is a Deputy Governor who has been fully involved in governance from day one,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu expressed optimism about Hamzat’s chances, urging residents to support his aspirations.
“We can only pray for him, wish him well and let the people know that he is prepared and deserving of the opportunity to lead,” he said.
