The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called for national unity behind President Bola Tinubu and Nigeria’s security agencies, saying the country’s will is strong and spirit unbreakable, despite recent attacks.
In a statement released the Governor said moments of crisis demand that Nigerians rise above politics and division. The forces of evil confronting our nation do not ask for your political affiliation before they kill, maim and destroy.
“Our resolve and support for our nation must be devoid of political leanings and divisive rhetoric,” Sanwo-Olu said.
He condemned recent security incidents across the country and expressed solidarity with victims, particularly the teachers and students abducted in Orire Local Government, Oyo State.
“Every life lost is a tragedy. Every community threatened by violence deserves our solidarity, support and protection,” he added.
The Governor said Nigeria has survived economic setbacks, political instability and security threats before, and will emerge stronger again.
He described the current security challenge as “not insurmountable” and warned that terrorists seek to weaken national resolve.
“We must deny them that victory because we are Nigerians,” he stated. Sanwo-Olu urged citizens across all states, faiths and ethnic groups to stay united, remain vigilant, and cooperate with security agencies through intelligence sharing.
“Government alone cannot win this battle without the support, cooperation, vigilance and active intelligence sharing by local communities,” he said.
He expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership and in the capacity of the armed forces and intelligence services to defeat terrorists targeting civilians. The Governor also paid tribute to security personnel on the frontline, saying they deserve the prayers and support of Nigerians.
“The challenges before us today must not define us. What should define us is how we respond with courage instead of fear, with unity instead of division, and with hope instead of despair,” Sanwo-Olu said.
He concluded with a message to young people, families and security officers to remain hopeful, resilient and steadfast, adding that the battle would be won.
Nigeria will prevail because the collective strength of our people is greater than the evil agenda of the few.”
