The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, has explained the cause of delays experienced during the conduct of Mathematics and Further Mathematics papers in some centers across the country.
In a statement, WAEC said the delays were caused by a combination of logistics and operational challenges that affected the timely delivery of question papers to certain centres.
According to the Council, a fatal accident involving the vehicle transporting sensitive materials contributed to the disruption.
“A devastating motor accident involving the vehicle conveying examination materials led to the loss of one of our staff.
This incident, coupled with security challenges in some areas, impacted our distribution timeline,” WAEC stated.
The Council added that other factors, including late registration of candidates by some schools, also affected the smooth conduct of the papers.
WAEC sympathised with the family of the deceased staff member and assured candidates that the affected papers have since been conducted. The Council said it has reviewed its logistics and security arrangements to prevent a recurrence.
“We have taken immediate steps to strengthen our distribution and contingency processes to ensure that all remaining papers are conducted without delay,” the statement said.
WAEC thanked candidates, schools, security agencies and other stakeholders for their patience and cooperation during the period.
